Seamless pipes have significant importance throughout many works and industries. These particular pipes are forged from a single chunk of metal. In this sense, they lack any seams or joints that may risk breaking them or weakening them. Seamless pipes are preferred over welded pipes because of their design that fundamentally makes them robust and dependable.

The production of seamless pipes is an elaborate and meticulous process. First, a piece of solid steel, called a billet, is heated to become very hot. That softens the metal and makes it more malleable. After the steel reaches the right temperature, it is turned or rotated to form it into round shape. Once this round shape is made, a mandrel (a tool) is placed into the metal. This device punctures the red-hot metal and forms a hollow tube.

Understanding the manufacturing process of seamless pipes

The hollow tube is then rolled and stretched until it is the proper size and length. The pipe is also rolled and stretched in this process to ensure that it is a uniform and smooth surface. This creates a pipe which is strong, durable and with no weak spots or joints which can lead to issues down the line. Seamless pipes are free from seams, so they can be used for many years without any risk of leakage or breakage.

Advantage: It can be used in different conditions and situations. As they are formed out of a single piece of metal, there are no weak points that can cause pipe failure. Consequently, seamless pipes have a greater tensile strength to deal with higher pressure and stress than welded pipes.
